Display of frequency domain forward solution

Nov 11, 2011 at 5:14 PM

When using the frequency domain forward solver the plot has a funny shape - see http://tinypic.com/r/iejtlg/5 - is this a bug? Also is this the AC amplitude or some other quantity? Is phase available as well?

Thanks for the question!

It's not a bug - in the online Silverlight GUI, we currently plot interleaved real and imaginary components for frequency domain results. For the moment, you'll need to export to text to process to amplitude/phase.

Aside: our core Vts.dll library exposes the solution as a Complex data type. Coming soon, we should have a native Matlab interface for these solvers.

In your example, you plot R(ρ) at ft = 0 GHz, which is steady-state reflectance vs source-detector separation, so zeros for the imaginary component make sense.

By the way, for these solvers we assume a semi-infinite tissue geometry, and the index of refraction, n, is variable for the analytic (non-MC solvers). For the scaled Monte Carlo, the index is fixed at 1.4.

Let us know if you have any more questions!
